Eggplant or aubergine.

There are many types of eggplants, the variety of eggplants or aubergines can be gauged from the numerous sizes and colors that can be found. A type of eggplant that is found in Thailand is so small that, it is no larger than a pea. This has given it the name ‘pea sized eggplant’. Larger eggplants in rounded sizes of 1.5 inches to 2 inches are also popular in Thailand. These eggplants are a whitish green and form an important ingredient in many Thai food dishes. What is more interesting is that, the Thais also eat these eggplants raw. The eggplant is first cut into pieces or slices, it is dipped (raw) in specially made sauces and eaten. You might also find a Thai biting an eggplant after dipping it in a dry mixture of salt and chilli powder. Though not related to this, it is interesting to note that biologists classify the eggplant as a fruit and not a vegetable.
