Choosing White Or Yellow Gold For Aquamarine
Sunday, January 6th, 2008
Most of us know the aquamarine as a very pale blue gemstone. The gemstone belongs to the beryly group of gems that include emerald and morganite too. The interesting thing about aquamarine is that, most aquamarine is a pale green to medium green when mined. It is the subsequent heating process used by gemstone producers that, creates the pale blue color of aquamarine. Though there is a pale blue naturally mined aquamarine, it is very rare and almost never seen in commercial jewelry markets.
So we need to discuss the choice of yellow or white gold for a pale blue aquamarine gemstone. If you had to choose yellow gold for your aquamarine jewelry, the clarity and pale color of the gemstone would cause the metal to be seen through the gemstone. Now, this is where the yellow color of the gold would subdue or even over power the pale blue color of the aquamarine gemstone. If you have no problem with this, then yellow gold aquamarine jewelry would be perfect.
On the other hand if you would like the faint blue color of the aquamarine gemstone to be accentuated in your aquamarine jewel, choose white gold. The metal would be visible through the gemstone in this case too but, no color shade would added to the visibility as it is white gold.
If you are wearing aquamarine as a birthstone and would like to have a yellow gold aquamarine jewel, consider going for an aquamarine gemstone that has a shade of green either on it’s own or in addition to the pale blue. The green is very pale, remember that is how most aquamarine is naturally found. Another option might be to surround the aquamarine gemstone with diamonds or white sapphires. This would strike a white color near the pale blue color of the aquamarine gemstone.
The ERG099 shown on this page is a gorgeous pair of aquamarine white gold earrings. The gemstones look a more prominent blue shade due to the quite color of the metal. See more images and details about these aquamarine jewels at this link: http://www.jewelry.kaijewels.com/aquamarine-earrings.htm
